Niels Otto Moller designed some of Denmark’s most enduring dining chairs. He worked from a small workshop in Aarhus and believed a chair should do three things: stay comfortable for hours, look beautiful from every angle, and last for generations. This set of Niels Otto Moller rosewood dining chairs includes two Model 64 carver armchairs and six Model 79 side chairs. The Model 64 and Model 79 first appeared in 1966. Both feel as fresh and modern today as they did half a century ago.
Carver Armchair – Model 64 Dimensions: W 56 x D 52 x H 80 cm.
Side Chair – Model 79 Dimensions: W 50 x D 50 X H 80 cm.
Moller founded J.L. Mollers Mobelfabrik in 1944. He rejected mass production and unnecessary ornament. Instead, he honoured Danish cabinet-making traditions. Each frame used solid timber. Workers tested every joint by hand. Collectors today seek his chairs not as museum pieces but as daily companions for eating, working, and conversation.
These chairs look equally at home beside a Victorian farmhouse table or inside a concrete-walled penthouse. Danish designers like Moller ignored fleeting trends. They focused on proportion, material honesty, and human comfort. A Niels Otto Moller rosewood dining chair works in any setting:
A period Georgian dining room
A mid-century ranch house
A brand-new minimalist apartment
The warmth of rosewood and the clean silhouette bring character to any architecture. The chairs never shout for attention.
We treated this set with unusual care. You will notice the difference immediately.
Hand polishing – Every piece of rosewood timber received hand polishing. This restores the deep, swirling grain that makes rosewood so prized. We used no sprayed lacquer and took no shortcuts.
New upholstery – We removed all original foam and webbing. The seats now feature Dedar “Atelier Moderne” linen canvas in a restrained green hue.
About the fabric:Â Dedar is a celebrated Italian textile house. The Atelier Moderne line combines traditional linen weaving with contemporary colour. This green linen canvas is durable, breathable, and subtle. It lets the rosewood speak while adding soft, natural texture under your hand.
We also have a matching rosewood dining table. The proportions align perfectly with the Model 64 armchairs. The shared timber tone creates a cohesive, curated look.
See the chairs in person at our gallery on 69 Francis Street, Dublin 8. This address sits in the heart of Dublin’s design district. You are welcome to sit in both the carvers and the side chairs. Run a hand over the polished rosewood. Feel the Dedar linen for yourself. No appointment is necessary. Check Google for shop opening hours.
