Mid Century Hans Von Klier desk for Skipper, Italy, 1970s.

I absolutely love a good desk, they are beyond doubt one of my favourite things to buy. I tend to look for and buy desks that I believe will inspire their owners and make them feel great every time they sit down to work. I love the thoughts of entering a room / office and seeing an amazing desk and knowing that this is your workspace / office for the day. This particular Hans Von Klier desk ranks among my top favourites of all time. I love the mix of mahogany, leather and chrome. It has real presence.

I’ve whiled away quite a few hours myself at this particular desk and the feel of the leather on my arms as I rest or how a pen gliding across paper reacts to the leather top underneath.

The leather top tells its story, it has plenty of marks from its previous owners but these marks do not detract. For me they are part of its history and give the desk that comfortable feeling, you don’t need to be precious with it, this piece is there to be used. The desk is in great condition in general but we decided that the leather was at that wonderful stage of use and to change it would take away something from the piece.

The concept for this desk is that the darker mahogany and leather should look like it’s floating in air above the two steel legs which in effect should mirror the floor and disappear. The desk has these three lovely little pencil drawers that hide within the piece, they don’t hold much which is great if your prone to making a mess like I am. For a 50 year old piece I feel that it remains very contemporary and will fit beautifully in a period property or a modern build. Having a piece like this is to spoil oneself and having likely worked hard for years it’s time to spoil yourself with a great desk.

• Condition: Professionally restored mahogany, original leather, steel legs. The desk does have some marks but nothing that detracts. All our items are looked at by trained restorers and all restoration is undertaking with keeping the originality and authenticity of the piece in mind.
