Questions about this piece?

The Hans Bellman Model 470 Daybed is one of the most celebrated sofa bed designs of the 1960s. Designed by Swiss architect and furniture designer Hans Bellmann for the German manufacturer Wilkhahn, Model 470 perfectly balances sculptural beauty with everyday practicality. Its ingenious pull-forward mechanism allows the sofa to transform smoothly into a comfortable daybed using just one hand, making it a true icon of Mid-Century Modern design.

Our example has been carefully restored to honour Bellmann’s original vision. The solid teak frame has been professionally polished to enhance the warmth and beauty of the timber. Meanwhile, the cushions have been completely reupholstered in a premium Dedar Aplomb satin wool fabric. The refined texture and soft lustre of the fabric complement the elegant teak frame while adding a luxurious contemporary finish.

The daybed mechanism operates exactly as intended. Simply pull the seat forward and the sofa transforms effortlessly into a generously sized daybed. As a result, the design remains just as practical today as it was when first introduced more than sixty years ago.
